De-Normalizing Nicotine Amongst Youth

LillyAnn at her district board meeting

My name is LillyAnn Foster and I am a student at Vista Nueva High School. I am a sophomore and I have been a part of Evolvement for 2 years now. I am writing this blog about my experience doing a board meeting.

I feel that tobacco products in schools don’t get talked about enough. In this day in age, using tobacco products as kids is normalized in our society, and that is why I am a member of Evolvment. I feel it is important for schools to go tobacco free because not only is it hurting our bodies as kids but it’s affecting our brains and our ability to learn. It’s also a distraction. I see teens in class all the time trying to give one another tobacco products to go to the bathroom and use them or even using them in class.

A tobacco-free school policy is important because it protects students’ health and discourages tobacco use. It helps create a healthier school environment and sets positive expectations for students. The 24/7 campaign supports schools by promoting and helping implement 24/7 tobacco-free policies to keep school communities safe.
